Yuejiang Lou

Yuejiang Tower (simplified Chinese: 阅江楼; traditional Chinese: 閱江樓; pinyin: Yuèjiāng Lóu; literally 'view river tower') is a prominent historical and architectural landmark located on top of Shizishan (Lion Mountain) to the northwest of downtown Nanjing, in Jiangsu Province, China. The tower overlooks the Yangtze River to the north and offers panoramic views of central Nanjing to the south, making it a significant cultural and scenic site.

The origins of Yuejiang Tower trace back to the 14th century, during the early years of the Ming Dynasty. In 1360, the future Ming emperor Zhu Yuanzhang secured a decisive victory against the forces of Chen Youliang at Lu Longshan, an event that laid the foundation for the establishment of the Ming Dynasty and the designation of Nanjing as its capital. Following his ascension, Zhu Yuanzhang renamed Lu Longshan to Lion Mountain in 1374 and commissioned the construction of Yuejiang Tower atop this strategic hill.
