By 2022, the Red Cross decided to auction Birtrange Castle due to its deteriorating condition and the high costs associated with its maintenance. The auction set a minimum bid of 5.2 million euros. The castle was purchased by Luxembourgish entrepreneur Jos Bourg, who initiated renovation efforts. These restoration works have been supported by the Department of National Sites and Monuments in Luxembourg, aiming to preserve the castle's historical integrity while adapting it for future use.
