During the 14th century, the castle changed hands several times among notable figures including Andronico Botta and Antoniotto Adorno, both influential in the politics of Genoa. However, it was Obietto Fieschi who managed to reacquire the castle, although he later lost it again amid the turbulent conflicts with the Sforza family, who sought to expand their control over the region. The Sforzas eventually gained possession of Savignone and the nearby Montoggio estates, marking a period of contest and rivalry.
