The Markaz Castle ruins are located about 2 kilometers from the village of Markaz in Hungary, perched at the end of the Vár crag. This small fortress was constructed in the late 13th century, specifically between 1270 and 1280, by the Kompolti family, who were part of the notable Aba genus. Unlike many castles of the period that served primarily military functions, Markaz Castle was built mainly as a recreational hunting lodge and a place of leisure for its owners.
