The fire marked a significant loss of cultural heritage, as many original baroque features were irreparably damaged or lost.

Restoration and cultural revival

Starting in the 1990s, efforts to restore Mälsåker Castle began in earnest. Since 2007, an association has managed Mälsåker Castle, opening it to visitors during the summer months.
