The de Groesbeecks used Franc-Waret as their summer residence, and the surviving 16th-century block still features characteristic defensive features such as a drawbridge and angle-towers, which are emblematic of fortified noble homes of the period.

In the mid-18th century, Alexandre François de Groesbeeck commissioned the construction of a large residential wing designed in the Louis XV style, which introduced a more elegant and rural aesthetic to the château. By the late 18th century, ownership of the château passed to the Comtes de Croix, and subsequently to the Comtes d'Andigné, who remain the current owners. Their stewardship has helped preserve the château's historical fabric and its extensive gardens.
