The historical significance of Fałków was elevated in 1340 when King Casimir III the Great granted permission to Jakub, the chancellor of Sieradz, and Piotr, the provost of St. Florian's Church in Kraków (later a bishop), to transform Fałków from a village into a town under Magdeburg rights. This legal status was crucial for urban development and defense.

Gothic castle origins and architecture

Likely constructed in the first half of the 14th century, the original castle was a small Gothic knight's stronghold. Unfortunately, due to the absence of detailed archaeological research and iconographic sources, the precise appearance and layout of this early fortress remain uncertain. The only contemporary confirmation of the castle's existence comes from mid-14th-century records noting that Bishop Piotr Szirzyk hailed from "de castro Falkow" (from the castle of Fałków). Later ownership and preservation status

Following the Lasocki family, the estate passed to the Stadnicki family. In 1833, Franciszek Jakubowski purchased the Fałków estate from Countess Ksawera Stadnicka. The property remained in the hands of Jakubowski's descendants until the period preceding World War II, during which time the estate was frequently divided.

Current condition and archaeological potential

Today, the site of Fałków Castle consists of stone and brick ruins that include the preserved walls of the first floor with window openings, the main entrance gate, and collapsed cellars. The entire complex is still surrounded by a water-filled moat, which underscores its original defensive design.
