Iviswold Castle, located in Rutherford, New Jersey, is a striking example of a 19th-century turreted mansion that has evolved through significant architectural and functional transformations. Originally constructed in 1869 as a two-story home by the New York newspaperman and land developer Lloyd W. Tomkins, the building's design reflected the residential styles of the period. However, the castle as it is known today owes much of its distinctive character to the extensive modifications made after David Brinkerhoff Ivison, president of the American Book Company, acquired the property in 1887. Ivison expanded the structure into a three-story mansion featuring turrets and a total of 25 rooms, including a notable music room and a carriage porch.

Renovations completed in 2013 restored many original architectural elements and adapted spaces for new uses. The former music room now functions as a chapel for the Catholic university's weekly masses, integrating the building's cultural heritage with its contemporary institutional role.
