Heetvelde Castle, known locally as Kasteel van Heetvelde, is a historic moated water castle located north of the village of Oetingen in the province of Flemish Brabant, within the Flemish region of Belgium. Origins and early history

The original castle at Heetvelde was constructed in the 16th century by the Counts of Hainaut as a fortified moated stronghold. Its location was chosen deliberately for military and political reasons, serving as a defensive outpost on the volatile frontier between powerful feudal domains. The castle's early incarnation featured typical defensive elements of the time, including a moat and a stronghold keep, designed to withstand sieges and conflicts.

The rebuilt castle includes a prominent square keep dating back to the late 16th century, which served as the core of the structure. Attached to this is a rectangular wing that connects to a round flanking tower, enhancing the castle's defensive capabilities and architectural complexity. To the south lie a freestanding D-shaped former flanking tower and an additional rectangular building, which together form part of the castle's extensive defensive and residential complex.
