Ownership shifted again in the early 15th century through marriage and inheritance. In 1412, Count Leonhard von Castell and Schenk Friedrich von Limpurg, brothers-in-law to Johann von Hohenlohe, acquired the castle. The Limpurg family solidified control by 1435, maintaining possession into the early 18th century.

Destruction, rebuilding, and decline

A pivotal event in the castle's history was its destruction on May 16, 1525, during the widespread Peasants' War uprising. This violent episode led to extensive damage, necessitating significant rebuilding efforts.
