Welsberg Castle (known as Castel Monguelfo in Italian) is a prominent hill castle situated above the scenic Casies Valley in the municipality of Welsberg-Taisten, Italy. Constructed initially in 1140 by the noble brothers Schwinkher and Otto von Welsberg, the castle's location was chosen strategically to oversee and dominate the surrounding lands. The last heir of the von Welsberg family entrusted the property to the Kuratorium Committee, which undertook a comprehensive restoration project. This restoration aimed to preserve the castle's historical fabric while making it accessible to the public. Since then, Welsberg Castle has been open for guided visits during the summer season, allowing visitors to explore its rich history and architectural heritage.
