Tržan Castle in Modruš

Tržan Castle, known locally as Tržan-grad or Utvrda Tržan, is a significant early medieval fortress located above the village of Modruš in the historical Lika region of central Croatia. This ruined castle stands on a steep ridge at approximately 670 metres (2,200 ft) above sea level on the eastern slopes of the Velika Kapela mountain. Its strategic position allowed it to oversee an important ancient road connecting the Adriatic Sea with the Pannonian Basin, linking the Roman towns of Senia (modern Senj) and Siscia (modern Sisak).
