Sur Al Hadadibeh Fort, also known as Bayt Al Muqham, is a historic fortification located in the village of Sayh Ramdah within the Muscat Governorate of Oman. Positioned just about 100 meters from the coastline, this fort is part of a network of traditional tribal defenses known locally as aswar (plural of sur), which were communal refuges built by local tribes to protect themselves during periods of conflict or danger.

Architectural design and construction

The fort follows a characteristic layout common to many aswar found on the Al Batinah coastal plain. It features a roughly square ground plan with two prominent round towers positioned diagonally opposite each other, which served as defensive strongpoints. The main entrance is housed within a rectangular gate building, typically located on the northern wall, providing controlled access to the interior.

Despite its current ruined condition, the construction techniques remain visible. The walls and towers were built with an inner core of mudbrick, a traditional building material in the region, faced externally with stone masonry to provide durability and resistance against attacks and weathering.
