The earliest documented mention of Stapelen Castle dates back to 1293, although it is believed to have been constructed earlier in the 13th century by a member of the noble Van Randerode family, who held lordship over Boxtel.

In 1918, the castle was acquired by the Fathers Assumptionists, a Catholic religious order. They repurposed the castle as a monastery and established a minor seminary within its walls. In 2018, Stapelen Castle was sold to a local businessman and is currently maintained as a private residence. Due to its private ownership, the castle is not open to public visits, preserving its tranquil and exclusive character. Despite this, Stapelen Castle remains an important cultural landmark in North Brabant, admired for its architectural heritage and historical significance.
