Klisina Castle

Klisina Castle, locally known as Utvrda Klisina, is a modest yet historically significant fortified tower located north of the hamlet of Bilišane in the Zadar County of Croatia. This late medieval structure was built during the 14th or 15th century, a period marked by frequent Ottoman incursions into northern Dalmatia. Its primary function was defensive, serving as a watchtower and protective outpost guarding a strategically important river crossing on the Zrmanja River.

Architectural features and strategic location

Unlike grand castles with extensive fortifications, Klisina Castle is essentially a small fortified tower constructed on a natural rock outcrop on the left bank of the Zrmanja River.
