Dunnaman Castle

This rectangular tower house stands three storeys high, though it may originally have been taller. The castle was constructed in the 16th century, a time when tower houses were commonly built across Ireland for defensive and residential purposes. Initially, Dunnaman Castle was inhabited by the De Lacy family around 1571, a prominent Norman-Irish lineage. Ownership later transferred to the Thornton family, and by 1666 it came into the possession of the Ormsby family. Architectural features

The castle's rectangular plan is typical of Irish tower houses of the period, designed primarily for defense combined with residential use. Today, Dunnaman Castle stands empty within a farmyard setting, which limits public access.
