Drugolo Castle

Drugolo Castle is a historic fortress located in the village of Drugolo, nestled within the morainic hills along the road connecting Padenghe to Bedizzole in Italy. Its origins trace back to the 10th century AD, with construction attributed to the Lombards, a Germanic people who ruled parts of Italy during the early medieval period. This castle exemplifies the defensive architecture typical of the Early Medieval era, designed to assert control over the surrounding landscape and protect local inhabitants.

Architectural design and defensive features

The castle is built on a raised wall platform that elevates it significantly above the surrounding terrain, enhancing its defensive capabilities. It has a distinctive square plan with two prominent corner towers that provided vantage points for surveillance and defense. Later, the castle was held by the Lanciani Rocca family and currently is under the possession of the Barons Lanni della Quara. These transitions reflect the castle's role as a noble residence and its importance in regional power dynamics.
