Droizy Castle, also known as Donjon de Droizy, is a notable medieval fortress located in the small village of Droizy, within the Aisne department of northern France. Constructed in the 12th century by the Lords of Droizy, this castle occupies a strategic position on a limestone plateau, which provided natural defensive advantages. The most prominent surviving feature of the castle is its imposing circular keep, rising over 22 meters high, making it the highest point in the Soissons district. By the late 15th century, the manor of Droizy became a vassal estate under the Villesavoye family once again, indicating a return to their influence.

Transition and later uses

In the 16th century, the castle's military importance diminished, and it was converted into a farmstead. This change in function is typical of many medieval castles that lost strategic value with advances in warfare and political shifts. The Villesavoye family retained ownership of the property until the 18th century.

By the 20th century, the castle buildings were no longer used for farming and fell into a state of neglect, serving as storage for abandoned agricultural machinery. Despite this decline, the castle's keep remained a prominent landmark.

Modern restoration and tourism

Between 2001 and 2004, Droizy Castle underwent significant restoration efforts to preserve its remaining structures. These works transformed the site into a luxury hotel, blending historical ambiance with modern comfort. The restoration focused on stabilizing the keep and enhancing its appeal as a heritage site.

Today, the keep is accessible to visitors only on special occasions, preserving its delicate condition while allowing limited public engagement.
