Modern status and recent events

Today, Dongelberg Castle is private property and is not open to the public. It stands empty and boarded up, with some other buildings on the castle grounds reportedly converted into a hotel at one point. The castle's atmosphere is described as ominous, reflecting its abandoned state.

After being put up for sale for €950,000, the castle underwent restoration work in 2020 following a change of ownership. Unfortunately, during these restoration efforts, the castle suffered a significant fire, causing extensive damage. Subsequent visits indicated that rebuilding efforts were underway, though the castle's future use remains uncertain.
