However, by the early 11th century, its military significance waned as the nearby Castell de Meda gained prominence and supplanted Sant Llorenç as the main defensive and administrative site in the area.

Notable figures such as comtes Guifré Borrell, Sunyer, and Borrell appear in historical documents related to property transactions involving the castle. Subsequently, the estate passed into the hands of the Gurb-Queralt family, a noble lineage influential in the region.

In the year 1007, a cleric named Bonfill, identified as a levite and son of Ansulf, donated the nearby Castell de Meda to the canonical church of Vic. This donation symbolizes the broader shift from military to ecclesiastical control of castles in the area.

Throughout the 13th century, the castle was held as a feudal possession under the authority of the bishop of Vic. The last recorded lord, Berenguer IV de Queralt, transferred ownership to the canons of Vic in 1253. After this point, there are no further historical records about the castle's use or its rulers, leaving its later history largely undocumented.

Architectural remains and archaeological significance

The archaeological remains of Castell de Sant Llorenç are located on the west slope of a rugged hill at the northeastern edge of the municipality. The site includes remnants of fortification walls, some of which were incorporated into the later monastic buildings.
