Al Khor Towers

The Al Khor Towers are a group of historic defensive towers located in the city of Al Khor, within the municipality of Al Khor (also spelled Al Khawr) in Qatar. These towers were constructed around 1900 to serve as strategic lookout and defense points guarding the harbor and the surrounding coastline. They played a crucial role in protecting the local community, particularly the pearling industry, from pirate attacks and other maritime threats.

Positioned on several rocky outcrops overlooking the harbor, the towers provided extensive views of the boats of pearl divers and the surrounding sea routes. The towers are notable for their compact and sturdy design. Each tower has a diameter of approximately 4 meters and walls about 60 centimeters thick, constructed using mud and local stone. The western and middle towers share a similar design and stand about 8 meters tall, while the eastern tower is more slender and reaches an estimated height of 10 meters.
