Al Jimi Fort

The area encompassing Al Ain and the neighboring town of Al Buraimi in Oman was originally a cluster of oases spanning roughly 24 square kilometers, north of the prominent Jebel Hafeet mountain. This region was historically known as the Al Buraimi Oasis. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the ruling authorities of Abu Dhabi constructed numerous forts and watchtowers to assert control over these vital water sources and agricultural lands. These fortifications served both as military outposts and as symbols of territorial sovereignty, protecting the settlements from bandit raids and competing tribal claims.

In 1952, the region became a flashpoint during a conflict when Saudi forces attempted to seize control of the oasis, aiming to annex it into the Saudi kingdom. This incursion led to confrontations involving the Trucial Oman Scouts and the army of Muscat-Oman. British intervention was pivotal in resolving the conflict, resulting in the withdrawal of Saudi forces and reaffirmation of Abu Dhabi's authority over the area.

Al Jimi Fort is a relatively small fortification characterized by traditional defensive elements common to oasis forts in the region. The fort likely features thick mud-brick walls designed to withstand attacks and the harsh desert climate.
