Žrnov

Žrnov (Serbian Cyrillic: Жрнов), also known as Žrnovan (Жрнован), was a medieval fortress situated on the highest peak of Avala Mountain at 511 metres (1,677 ft) near Belgrade, Serbia. The site holds a layered history beginning with an Ancient Roman outpost that established early strategic control over the region. This outpost was later expanded and fortified by the Serbs during the medieval period, transforming it into a significant defensive stronghold.
